Published:12. Dec 2024ZENNER is the leading provider of metering and billing solutions, helping property owners minimize operating expenses and ensure fair allocation of cooling charges. Understanding your cooling bill can be a challenge and our aim towards the residents is to provide transparent and accurate bills for their consumption.
This blog post breaks down the typical charges for different types of cooling systems, helping you understand what you are going to pay for.
No matter which type of cooling system your building or apartment has – district cooling, chiller or VRF (variable refrigerant flow), ZENNER provides a comprehensive metering and billing solution. Few charges are common in all these cooling systems, i.e. cooling consumption charges and service charge.
- Cooling Consumption Charges: This variable cost is the heart of your bill. It reflects your usage, measured in refrigeration ton-hours (RTH). The cooling consumption charge payable by the customer is calculated by multiplying the metered consumption in any period by the rate per RTH. Cooling rates differ depending on the operator you have and the type of cooling system your building has (District Cooling, Chiller, VRF)
- Service Charge: A fixed monthly charge for the metering service that helps in measuring your energy consumption. This ensures accurate billing based on your usage.
There are fuel surcharge and capacity charge applicable to district cooling but not to chiller and VRF cooling systems. These charges are defined as follows:
- Fuel Surcharge: A small, variable charge that covers fluctuations in fuel costs used to generate chilled water. The rate is regulated by DEWA in Dubai. This is calculated by multiplying energy consumption (RTH) and tariff.
- Capacity Charge: This fixed monthly fee secures enough cooling power to meet your peak cooling needs. The rate depends on your contracted capacity, set by your district cooling provider. Even if you don’t use your full capacity, you will pay this charge. capacity charge is calculated by multiplying declared load (TR) by the tariff.
VRF (variable refrigerant flow) cooling being a slightly different model of cooling system has another charge termed as fixed charge in addition to cooling consumption charge and service charge.
ZENNER’s advanced metering systems accurately track individual unit consumption, ensuring you pay for the energy you use.
At ZENNER, we understand the importance of trust and transparency when it comes to billing. We are committed to providing our customers with a clear understanding of what they are paying for, without any hidden fees or surprises. We hope this blog enables you to make sense of your cooling bill, whether you are using district cooling, chiller or VRF system!
